The Fe-Mo-Nb-S system: Phase relations of edgarite
Original language description
Within the ternary Fe-Nb-S sub-system, our experiments indicate a broad FexNbyS2 solid solution, which embraces the edgarite composition. In the central part of the Fe-Mo-Nb-S system at 400 °C, there are two univariant assemblages: molybdenite + pyrite +edgarite + NbS2 + vapor; molybdenite + pyrrhotite + edgarite + NbS2 + vapor. In the MoS2 + FeNb3S6 assemblage, both phases exhibit only a limited mutual substitution. We could not confirm any influence of Nb on the polytypism of molybdenite.
