Silurian Bivalvia from Chichagof Island, Southeast Alaska (Alexander terrane)
Original language description
The new Silurian Bivalvia Goniophora thula-Mytilarca boucoti Community from the new locality on Chichagof Island, Southeast Alaska, U.S.A., Alexander terrane composed of 9 species bivalves (two new) is dominated by Goniophora thula and is most probably of the upper Wenlock or lower Ludlow age. The new community occupied upper slope environment lying seaward of a cyanobacterial reef front and is closely related to similar upper Wenlock shallow water community known from Gotland and lower Ludlow shallow water Janicula potens Community known from Bohemia, Prague Basin. Faunal affinities of brachiopods which occur together with the new Bivalvia community suggest that Alexander terrane represent a rifted block of the eastern Siberian palaeocontinent.
