Selected Critical Zone Observatories of Europe represent different life cycle stages of soils and different environmental threats. Four main observatories are Damma (Switzerland) with initial stages of soil formation, Lysina (Czech Republic) with instense forest management, Fuchsenbigl (Austria) with intense agricultural management, and Koiliaris in degraded stage of soil development.
