Combustion Metamorphism in the Most Basin, Czech Republic
Original language description
The Most Basin (dominantly of Neogene age) situated in the NW of the Czech Republic hosts at least 65 occurrences of CM rocks up to several km2 in size, which are the largest in Central Europe, scattered in the territory of about 1400 km2. All CM rocks studied are pre-Holocene, mostly of Middle Pleistocene ? Pliocene age. The CM rocks represent brick-like clinkers, glassy porcellanites of jasper-like appearance, ferruginous slags and scarce Ca-rich paralavas, which host the most diverse mineral assemblage. The combustion took place at low-pressure and dry conditions in the temperature range ~980?1300 °C. The phases identified are: anatase, anhydrite, ankerite, apatite, aragonite, barioferrite, bredigite, barite, calcite, celsian, chalcopyrite, cordierite, corrundum, cristobalite, diopside, esseneite, fayalite, forsterite, Ca-graftonite, gypsum, hematite, hercynite, ilmenite, kirschsteinite, metakaolinite, maghemite, magnesioferrite, magnetite, melilites, mullite, orthopyroxene, perovsk
