Gold chalcogenides natural occurrence in Maletoyvayam (Kamchatka, Russia) - an experimental approach

  • Original language description

The Au-Te-Se system was experimentallystudied base on a field research performed in theMaletoyvayam ore field at the Kamchatka peninsulalocated in the Eocene-Oligocene central Kamchatkavolcanic belt. Gaching – Maletoyvayam is a highsulfidation type of epithermal deposit where two ternaryphases Au2TeSe and Au3Te6Se4 were proved there andcharacterized in terms of crystal structure, solid solutions, stable associations and thermal stability. The phaseAu2TeSe is stable up to 462 °C and the phase Au3Te6Se4is stable up to 447 °C. Experimental results revealedphase relations in the system at 400 °C. The ternaryphase Au2TeSe coexists with gold and AuSe, calaverite(AuTe2) and gold, AuSe and Se. The phase Au3Te6Se4forms stable association with Au2TeSe and Se, Au2TeSeand calaverite, calaverite and gold. Calaverite dissolvesup to 6.7 at. percent Se. Coupling mineralogical studyand experimental investigations, formation temperatureof this Au-bearing mineralization is considered to bebelow 450 °C.
