Palladium and platinum seleno-tellurides and their associations

  • Original language description

Palladium and platinum tellurides andselenides were experimentally investigated at 400 °C. Wehave synthesized the binary and ternary phases in thesystems Pd/Pt-Se-Te and evaluated them by means of Xraypowder-diffraction analysis, reflected light andelectron microscopy. The experiments were performedusing the evacuated silica-glass tube method. The phaserelations were assessed in the system Pd-Se-Te at400 °C. Miessite (Pd11Te2Se2) forms stable associationswith Pd13Te3 and keithconnite (Pd20Te7), keithconnite andpalladseite (Pd17Se15). Miessite also coexists with Pd4Se,Pd7Se2, Pd34Se11 and Pd7Se4. Telluropalladinite coexistswith Pd3Te2 and palladseite. Palladseite coexists withPd3Te2 and kotulskite ss. Preliminarily experimentalresults in the Pt-Se-Te system have shown the completesolid solution sudovikovite (PtSe2) – moncheite (PtTe2). Anew ternary phase PtSeTe was observed in the systemand is being further investigated. Assessed stableassociations should be sought in assemblages with otherPGM and known Pd/Pt selenides and tellurides, likely inmagmatic Cu-Ni-PGE mineral deposits, associated withmafic and ultramafic igneous rocks, but also at lowtemperatures formations like selenide vein-typemineralization.
