Coffinite-Zr-Ti-(REE-Y) mineralization in deeper parts of the Rožná uranium deposit, Czech Republic
Original language description
Uranium mineralization in deeper parts of the Rožná deposit is bound to graphitized, chloritized andalbitized zones of cataclasites in host rocksmetamorphosed to amphibolite facies. It consists mostlyof disseminated coffinite, and to a lesser extent ofstrongly coffinitized uraninite. Coffinite contains up to 1.2wt.percent Zr, 0.6 wt.percent Ti, 2.6 wt.percent REE, and 0.008 wt.percent Y.The LREE/HREE ratio in uranium ores (3.9–11.6) andan indistinct europium anomaly (Eu/Eu* = 0.59–0.85)indicate U-mineralization of the hydrothermal type.Coffinite occurs in association with authigenic monazite, xenotine and anatase, which originated throughhydrothermal decomposition of metamict titanite. Theauthigenic hydrozircon is common and rims either thegrains of the original metamorphic zircon or occurs assmall, well-shaped grains containing up to 0.41 wt.percent U,which can be explained by an extensive miscibility ofUSiO2 and ZrSiO2phases.
