Central Asian Orogenic Belt 2024
Original language description
International Geological Conference "Central Asian Orogenic Belt 2024" organized on 29-30 May, 2024 inUlaanbaatar aims to present new research results related to the dynamics of the Altaids carried out mainly on the territory of Mongolia and China. The programme of the conference mirrors the joint and relentless efforts of Czech, Mongolian and Chinese colleagues over the past several years. It covers a variety of topics such as the tectonic evolution of the Altaids, their metamorphic and magmatic processes and temposrelated to both accretion and collision, paleogeographic models based on paleomagnetism and detrital zircon studies, advances in geological mapping and geophysical imagery and metallogenic evolution of this giant accretionary-collisional orogenic system. Our vision of the formation of Altaids has changed during the last decade and several long lasting concepts went through profound modification such as the mechanismsof amalgamation of the Tarim-North China Collage, processes of oroclinal bending of the Mongolian and Kazakh oroclines and Permian-Jurassic collision related to the closure of the Mongol-Okhotsk and Paleo-Asian oceanic domains. Great progress was also achieved in the tectono-metamorphic evolution of the Mongolian and Chinese Altai where a new tectonic switching concept revolutionized our understanding of the transformation of accretionary wedges into stable crust. Meanwhile, the fresh concepts of Rodinia dispersal and inception of Pacific Ocean subduction related to the construction of the Mongolian Collage during the Ediacarian to Cambrian have emerged.
