The effect of integrated pest management practices in an apple orchard on Heteroptera community structure and population dynamics.
Original language description
The community structure and population dynamics of Heteroptera was studied in an apple orchard in Czechia during 1992-1995. An integrated pest management (IPM) system (grass ground cover or planting six selected herbs in two wide belts along the rows oftrees) was compared with chemical control. The diversity of heteroptera community was always higher on IPM plots. Orius spp. were abundant on the chemical control plots due to abundant Tetranychus urticae populations. Other predators were more abundant onIPM plots. The abundance of phytophagous species was favoured by the herbaceous undergrowth of IPM plots. Number of predatory Heteroptera increased after IPM introduction. Vegetation cover diversity was enhanced due to cultivation of IPM plots and di dnot result in any additional increase of predatory Heteroptera.
