European winter wheat landraces as possible donors for breeding
Original language description
Landraces and obsolete cultivars (120 accessions) were evaluated in three-year field experiment. Among the 13 examined characteras, a relatively wide diversity (C.V. over 10 %) has been estimated in spike length, characters of spike productivity (exceptin grain weight) and some quality characters (SDS-test and expecially gluten index). Valuable resources can be found in grain quality charycters. The productivity of the selected 31 accessions was estimated in field trials in 6 environments. Mean yield sof four modern cultivars were by 51 % higher than in landraces and obsolete cultivars. 11 old cultivars provided mean yields over 4 t per ha, 4 local cultivars belonged to this group. The impact of environmental factors was lower in landraces and obso lete cultivars than in modern cultivars and old cultivars had relatively higher yields in the environment with lower mean productivity.
