Suitability of Biolog system for differentiating fluorescent pseudomonads associated with premature dying of apricot trees.

  • Original language description

In spring of 2003, serious symptoms of canker and dieback were observed on young apricot trees in pot experiment at Lednice, south Moravia. In the same time, sudden wilt and collapse of newly emerged flowers and leaves and death of branches or entire aerial portion of the 5-7 years-old trees were recorded in commercial orchards on some localities in south Moravia. Fifty four isolates of fluorescent pseudomonads were isolated from infected apricot trees. Among them 94% isolates were identified as Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae (Pss) and 6% as Pseudomonas fluorescens (Pf). None of fluorescent isolates belonged to Pseudomonas syringae pv. morsprunorum (Pmp). Of the 25 isolates that expressed ice nucleation activity, 88% ranged to Pss and 12% to Pf.In pathogenicity test on immature cherry fruits, all Pss isolates were pathogenic and all Pf isolates were non-patogenic. Pss appeared to be the major pathogen causing bacterial canker of stone fruit in the Czech Republic. Pss isolates showed
