Influence of environmental conditions on apple bud dormancy
Original language description
Dormancy is considered to belong to one of the important state enabling plants to survive unfavourable living conditions. Aim of the work was assessment of the development of dormancy in vegetative apple buds in relation to their survival at low temperatures. The period of endodormancy and ecodormancy of vegetative buds of two model apple cultivars ?Šampion? and ?Spartan? from orchard was determined during three seasons (98/99, 99/00, and 00/01). Endogenous dormancy was assessed when less than 50% of buds did not regrow after 30 days of the growth inductive conditions. During each season, the cultivars differed either in the beginning of the dormancy or in the length of the dormant period. A relation between dormancy of the buds and their water contentwas not detected. The length, entering and release of endodormancy were dependent on the course of temperatures and precipitations during the vegetation period. The survival of vegetative apple buds subjected to cryopreservation procedur
