DNA analysis: applications for genotype identification

  • Original language description

Since DNA structure was discovered and genetic code deciphered a various techniques have been developed enabling efficient analysis of plant genome structure and function. It is necessary to govern technologies, which differentiate efficiently among closely related genotypes, cultivars and lines. Potential of RFLP and PCR based methods are discussed. High-throughput techniques are mentioned. These methods have been successfully used for DNA profilling of genotypes, characterisation of genetic resourcesand identification GMOs. Occurence of GMOs and derived products must be carefully tested, so that methods for detection and quantitation are beeing developed and validated. It is apparent, that DNA analysis can be used in the future in many application inresearch, but also for regulatory purposes.
