    Mapping of resistance genes to Plum pox virus

    Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers linked to resistance to Plum pox virus (PPV)) were identified by a combination of bulk segregant analysis (BSA) and subsequent B1 mapping. Eleven AFLP markers associated with resistance to PPV were identified using BSA. Two genetic linkage maps for apricot have been constructed. The LE-3246 map contains 98 AFLP and 3 simple sequence repeats (SSR) markers assigned to 8 linkage groups and covers 777.7 cM. A gene controlling resistance to PPV was located in linkage group L1. The Vestar map consists of twelve linkage groups with 73 AFLP and 4 SSR markers. The total length of the map is 768.3 cM. Four AFLP markers tightly linked to the resistance were converted to SSR markers. The SSR markers will allowthe plant breeder to use marker assisted selection (MAS) to screen apricot cultivars and segregating progenies for resistance to PPV.
