Nutrient and Soil Management Practices in the Czech Republic
Original language description
The contribution to the OECD expert meeting gives an overview of the recent development of the farm management practices in the Czech Republic. It stressed that agriculture does not inevitably have to be in contradiction to environment and environmentalprotection. On the contrary, productive and sustainable agriculture is a conditio sine qua non for an effective environmental protection. In general, a definition of sound agriculture and sound farm management practices should be based on the principle oftolerable limits: sound farm management practices have to maintain its provable, verifiable impact on soil and ecological soil functions, its provable impact on water, air and biodiversity and quality of countryside, within tolerable limits. Obviously,a couple of different indicators are needed which would be evaluated not only spatially but also over longer time periods
