Effect of different soil tillage technologies on yields of winter wheat

  • Original language description

The effect of different technologies of soil tillage on yields of winter wheat was evaluated in long term stationary field experiments performed on plots with chernozem soil in the sugar beet growing region within the period of 1989 to 2008. Winter wheatwas grown in 3 crop rotations after alfalfa, silage maize and peas. Four methods of tillage were evaluated: (1) ploughing to the depth of 0.22 m; (2) shallow ploughing to the depth of 0.15 m; (3) shallow disc tillage to the depth of 0.10 m, and (4) no tillage. The highest average yield was obtained in the variant with peas while the lowest one after alfalfa. In all 3 crop rotations, the impact of different methods of soil tillage on yields of winter wheat was statistically significant. In the variant with growing of winter wheat after alfalfa the highest and the lowest yields were obtained after shallow ploughing to the depth of 0.15 m and after zero tillage, respectively. Reduction of yields in the variant with no tillage was affected
