Original language description
Fertilizer application affects not only vascular plants but also biomass production and species composition of bryophyte communities as well. In low productive grasslands, bryophyte layer cannot be overlooked in element budgets calculations. As the commercial fertilizers frequently contain trace amounts of toxic elements, and bryophytes are able to accumulate them in the biomass, bryophytes seem to be promising bio-indicators not only for airborne deposition of toxic elements but also for fertilizer introduced as well.
