First Occurrence of Fire Blight on Apricot (Prunus armeniaca) in Czech Republic
Original language description
During June 2007, an intensive bacterial attack was observed on young shoots of an apricot tree. Symptoms of a bacterial disease developed at 42% of young shoots on five-year-old apricot tree cultivar Veharda (Prunus armeniaca). Samples of the leaves with symptoms were macerated and then the isolation using sucrose nutrient agar and King?s B was carried out. After 24 hours of incubation in 27°C, morphologically similar bacteria to E. amylovora were detected (M/07/01). Determination by diagnostic methodsconfirmed presence of bacteria E. amylovora. The isolate showed typical colony morphology on King?s B (KB) and CCT media. The pathogenity test was carried on immature pear fruits. The positive hypersensitivity test was induced on tobacco leaves (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Burley SH). The Biolog GN2 MicroPlateTM System and Sherlock ? Microbial Identification System were used to identify of the isolated bacteria. This is a first record of a natural outbreak of fire blight symptoms in Czech
