Observed and simulated depletion of mineral nitrogen by winter wheat from soil profile
Original language description
Distribution of mineral N (Nmin = N-NO3- + N-NH4+) in a soil profile under winter wheat was simulated with model CERES-Wheat. The aim of the study was to compare observed and simulated Nmin distribution and apparent N depletion during wheat growth. The field experiment was performed in years 2008 and 2009, low (N1) and high N (N2) fertilization treatments were observed. Soil samples were taken in 20 cm increments from 10 cm down to 110 or 130 cm depth at early spring, at tillering, anthesis and after harvest. Wheat crop apparently depleted all physiologically available soil mineral N down to 90 cm depth under low N fertilization. The N in zones under 90 cm was not fully utilized. Under high N fertilization the supply of Nmin from top and subsoil layerswas not fully depleted that resulted in higher residual content after harvest than in N1 treatment. The model simulated fairly well the distribution of Nmin during wheat growth, the differences were mostly within range of Nmin variabilit
