Common Scab Disease in Central Europe
Original language description
Six year central european study described the diversity of plant pathogenic Streptomyces species occurring on potato tubers on 10 localities at different altitudes and with different potato cultivation technologies in. Most of the pathogenic bacteria were identified as Streptomyces scabiei, causal agent of common scab disease. They were determined by FAME analysis, PCR analysis of 16S rDNA, and by the detection of PAI genes. The virulence of streptomycetes and the susceptibility or resistance of potatovarieties was assessed in a greenhouse trial according to the scab index (SI). Agria and Desiree, were used as indicators to the assession of disease risk in different potato producing regions. Growing fields were divided into three groups - fields witha high disease risk, fields with intermediate disease risk and, fields with almost zero incidence of common scab.
