Common bunt and dwarf bunt may cause considerable losses of yield and seed quality of winter wheat, especially in organic farming, where chemical seed treatment is not possible. Artiicial inoculation trials were performed at the Crop Research Institute, Prague, to support a potential solution through breeding for resistance. In total, 87 winter wheat genotypes were tested in 2013 and 2014. Winter wheat genotypes resistant to common bunt and dwarf bunt were identiied. The incidence of common bunt exceeded 70% spikes in susceptible genotypes, thus allowing a bunt infection level <10% to be taken as limit for a resistant reaction. Dwarf bunt infection was lower even in the most susceptible genotypes. Therefore, a resistant reaction to dwarf bunt was assumed only when the level of infection was 0-0.1%.
