Original language description
The paper gives the first insight into diversity, reproduction modes and evolutionary patterns in brambles of the Western Caucasus. These aspects of the very diverse, yet unexplored genus Rubus in Colchis have not been studied yet. Ploidy data were obtained from flow cytometric measurements, reproduction mode was studied via flow cytometric seed screen (FCSS), and haplotypes were identified via Sanger sequencing of two plastid regions. The data shows evolutionary trends and historical connections with the European bramble flora, and provide a springboard for further studies of this plant group in the Caucasus.
