Is evolution of apomicts driven by the phylogeography of the sexual ancestor? Insight from European and Caucasian brambles (Rubus, Rosaceae)
Original language description
The paper deals with phylogeography of diploid Rubus ulmifolius agg. in Europe, Southern Caucasus and northern Africa, and its relation to the evolution of the polyploid complex of ser. Discolores. Using NGS sequencing of 10 nuclear SSR loci, Sanger sequencing of two plastid loci and ecological niche modeling, distribution of the diploid in the last glacial maximum was reconstructed and postglacial recolonization of north-western Europe and the Southern Caucasus was implied. In these regions, the diploid exhibits lower genetic diversity, which probably led to the radiation of polyploid apomicts there.
