Enhanced Accumulation of Phenolics in Pea (Pisum sativumL.) Seeds upon Foliar Application of Selenate and Zinc Oxide
Original language description
Selenium (Se) and Zinc (Zn) are essential antioxidant enzyme cofactors. Foliar Se /Zn application (agronomic biofortification) is a highly method of plant biofortification. The pot - experiment was conducted to examine effect of foliar applied sodium selenate and zinc oxide at the flowering stage. The concentration of Se and Zn, total phenolic and total flavonoid contents and total antioxidant activity (ABTS, FRAP)) of seeds of two pea varieties. The Se treatments improved Se accumulation in both seed varieties, Zn treatments did not improve seed Zn accumulation. The Se treatments improved Se accumulation in both seed varieties, the Zn treatments did not affect seed Zn accumulation. Selenium and Zn treatments positively influenced total phenolic content. The results are important for producing pea and pea products rich in health -beneficial bioactive plant compounds.
