The aim was to study the heterosis effects for growth in hybrids of one egg line and 2 meat lines of Japanese quail. Parameters of the growth curve were calculated using Richards s function. The heterosis was compared to the egg production for each cross-combinations. We found that the heterosis is related with age. Nevertheless this relation is not the same for all hybrids. The hybrids with positive/negative heterosis in acceleration period had negative/positive heterosis in retardation period. Effectof positive/negative heterosis in the acceleration period caused shortening/prolongation of that period and was associated with earlier/later age of the inflexion point compare to their parents. Comparison of heterosis in body weight and the growth curveparameters with the heterosis in egg production confirmed the relationship between growth and reproduction. Shortening/prolongation of the acceleration period is related to positive/negative heterosis in egg production.
