Genetic parameters for litter traits in pig - comparison of different models
Original language description
Litter size traits (NB number of piglets born, NBA number of piglets born alive, NW number of piglets weaned) and litter weight (WW weaning weight at an age of 21 days) of Czech Large White sows born from 1986 to 1997 were analysed. REML methodology was applied in the following five types of models to estimate the covariance components: (i) Four-trait models for each parity, (ii) four-parity models for each trait, (iii) single-trait single-parity models for each trait and each parity, (iv) a four-trait repeatability model, (v) single-trait repeatability models for each trait. Results from different models were generally in relatively agreement among each other Greater differenCES occurred in the estimates of heritabilities which were higher inmulti-parity models than in repeatability models. The results confirmed the assumption that the first litter is genetically different from the following litters.
