Relative importance of traits in the breeding goal for pig in dependence on the position of breeds in crossing systems
Original language description
The relative importance of traits (daily gain - ADG, weight of valuable cuts - VC and number of piglet born alive - NBA) in the total breeding value was calculated for various crossbreeding systems. The relative economic weight (REW) for each trait and each selection group in all system was calculated as the product of the marginal value, the genetic standard deviation and the number of discounted expressions for the trait. The ratio of REW for VC and ADG were 2.4:1 for all breeds, sexes and crossing systems. In each breed-sex group, there were significant differenCES in this ratio dependent on the use of this group for mating in different tiers within a crossing system. In systems with three-way crosses the ratio of REW for NBA and ADG was higher (byabout 35%) in the breed used in grandsire position than in grandam position. The REW for NBA in sire breeds were negligible (0.02 to 0.05).
