Milk, fat and protein yield in first three lactations were analysed for the Simmental cattle population in the Czech Republic using data sets from the national milk recording data base. (Co)variance components were estimated using REML under an animal model in three data sets that were created according to regions. The model for the analyses included the factors herd-year-season (fixed), animal (random), calving age, days open and calving interval (covariables). The analyses were performed separately for milk, fat and protein yield. Heritability estimates were calculated from the average (co)variance matrix using the results from data sets. Heritabilities reached values about 0.20. For milk yield they were slightly higher (0.23-0.26) than for the otheranalysed traits. High genetic correlations (about 0.99) were found between yields for the second and third lactation.
