Original language description
The stages of development according to Hamburger and Hamilton classification (1951) and weights of embryos were analysed in 2 lines of Japanese quail selected for a high (HG) or low (LG) relative gain between 11 and 28 days of age. Similar mature body weight was held in both lines. Different growth rates in LG and HG quail after hatching showed that embryonic development could be different, too. It was found that LG embryos attained later stages during the first two days of development.
