Cattle stocks in the Czech Republic have significantly decreased since 1990. The initial decrease was accompanied by a decrease in performance. But there has been a marked increase in performance in the last period. The decrease in stocks led to a changein breed representation. The stocka of Czech Fleckvieh breed decline while the proportion of Holstein cattle increase. Performance recording is carried out for a long time in 92 to 94 % of the cow population. Animal registration and breeding value estimation are administered centrally. The populations are members of Interbull for milk performance and conformation. Genetic gain for cows of Czech Fleckvieh is 0.93 kg of milk protein and for bulls 1.88 kg. Cows of Holstein cattle have genetic gain 2.35 kgof milk protein and bulls 3.00 kg Breeding value estimation according to TD-AM, evaluation of functional traits and construction of selection indexes are under development.
