In human assisted reproduction, the cytoplasm of oocytes recovered from antral follicles is often abnormal. Its low quality may be responsible for certain chromosomal abnormalities, moreover mutated mitochondrial DNA is located also in the cytoplasm. With the advance of new micromanipulation techniques, some abnormalities can be theoretically eliminated.

V asistove humánní reproduckci se často setkáváme s oocyty, které mají abnormální cytoplasmu. Ta může být následně zodpovědná za určité chromosomální abnormality, navíc může obsahovat mutovanou mitochondriální DNA. S vývojem nových mikromanipulačních technik je možné některé tyto abnormality eliminovat.
