Our study suggests that a sow?s carefulness during standing-to-lying events follows a similar time course in the first 24 h postpartum as her general activity. Sows performed more pre-lying behaviour when piglets were nearby and when they were clusteredat all times during 24 h after birth of the first piglet. A higher carefulness score and no piglets in danger zone factor decreased significantly the probability of piglet crushing. Further research should focus on the mechanisms, which decrease the probability that piglets are present in the danger zone and, specifically, on sow and piglet communication during the pre-lying behaviour.

Opatrnost a přizpůsobivost prasnic při uléhání během 24 hodin po porodu ve vztahu k poloze selat

Czech description

Naše práce naznačuje, že opatrnost prasnice při uléhání se během prvních 24 hodin po porodu vyvíjí podobným způsobem jako její veškerá aktivita. Po celou dobu 24 hodin po narození prvního selete měly prasnice delší dobu uléhání v případě, že se selata vyskytovala poblíž anebo byla pohromadě. Pravděpodobnost zalehnutí selat se průkazně snižovala s vyšší opatrností při uléhání a při nepřítomnosti selat v ohroženém prostoru. Další výzkum by se měl zaměřit na prvky chování, které sníží pravděpodobnost přítomnosti selat v ohroženém prostoru a konkrétně na komunikaci mezi prasnicí a selaty během uléhání.
