Obtaining PRRSV – Free Offspring of Enetically Valuable Lines of the Přeštice Black Pied Breed from PRRSV-Positive PLG Breeding
Original language description
Přeštice black-pied pig is the original national breed in the Czech Republic and this breed is included into the programme of preservation of animal genetic resources. The objective of this study was to suggest the process for obtaining insemination doses of semen free of reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) from three genetically valuable lines of boars of the Přeštice black-pied breed coming from PRRSV-positive pig breeding to obtain PRRSV-free offspring. The ejaculates were collected from three different lines of boars by the gloved-hand technique. Samples of native semen were sent to State Veterinary Institute for detection PRRSV by RT-PCR method. Insemination doses were prepared from the rests of the semen. The results of the RT-PCR method were negative and so PRRSV-free sows were inseminated prepared insemination doses. Blood samples of sows and their offspring were tested for detection PRRSV by serological test ELISA where the results were PRRSV-negative. In conclusion, this study demonstrated a possible process to obtain PRRSV-free offspring that could not be obtained by other standard breeding procedures. The healthy offspring was obtained from three genetically valuable lines of Přeštice black-pied boars coming from PRRSV-positive pig breeding. This way we managed to keep the endangered population of this breed which is included in the program of animal genetic resources.
