The Study on Antibacterial Activity of Plant Oils Containing Medium-Chain Fatty Acids
Original language description
The antibacterial activity of plant oils, rich in medium-chain fatty acids, was tested towards 13 pathogenic and 6 beneficial intestinal bacteria. Namely, coconut (Cocos nucifera), palm kernel (Elaeis guineensis), palm, red palm (E/ae/s guineensls), babassu (Attalea speciosa), tucuma (Astrocaryum vulgare), murumuru (Astrocaryum murumuru) and Cuphea (C. lanceolata and C. ignea) oils were tested. The antibacterial activity was evaluated towards following bacteria: Salmonella enteritidis, S. infantis, S. typhimurium, Campylobacter jejuni, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecium, Clostridium perfringens, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Bifidobacterium animalis, B. longum, Lactobacillus fermentum, and L. acidophilus.
