The heritability of and genomic correlations among four reproductive interval traits in pigs, including the farrowing interval, interval from weaning to the first mating, interval from weaning to next farrowing, and interval from the first mating to next farrowing, were estimated. Both the original and logarithmically transformed trait values were analyzed. More than 199,359 observations were found in the 55,118 Czech Large White sows. Reproduction data covers the period between 2000 and 2024. The transformation was used to ensure that the extremely non-symmetrical distributions of the interval traits with a high kurtosis resembled a normal distribution. We used the median ỹ to divide the distribution into two parts and transform the values y > ỹ alone. Genome-wide data were available for 2937 individuals born between 2005 and 2024. After the quality control analysis of all SNPs, the data from 2935 animals containing 32,345 SNPs were used for further investigation. The heritability estimates from the untransformed data were very low (between 0.02 and 0.08). After applying the transformation to the interval data, the heritability estimates were increased from 0.06 to 0.11, indicating that genetically, the farrowing interval and the interval from weaning to farrowing were essentially the same trait, whereas the transformed data showed highly positive genetic correlations (>0.65) between the farrowing interval and the remaining interval traits. Therefore, selecting shorter transformed farrowing intervals is expected to yield favorably correlated selection responses across all other transformed interval traits. These effects should also be observed in the original scale of measurement of the interval traits because the transformation did not change ranking of the animals.
