Novel method of nozzle-free centrifugal spinning in comparison with Forcespinning and electrospinning technologies

  • Original language description

Novel method of nozzle-free centrifugal spinning in comparison with Forcespinning and electrospinning technologiesCentrifugal spinning is an alternative method for producing nanofibers from various materials. We have developed a novel method and pilot plant equipment based on improved nozzle-free centrifugal technology. The aim of this case study was to compare the novel technology with two important commercial technologies of mass nanofiber production - the nozzle-free electrospinning technology Nanospider (Elmarco) and forcespinning (FibeRio). The forcespinning technology uses a rotating spinneret with orifices lining the outer wall. Polyamide 6 (PA6) was chosen as a model spinning material. Process parameters of the selected technologies and fiber characteristics were compared. Between main advantages of electrospinning technology belong lower diameter of produced fibers and narrower diameter distribution. Main advantages of centrifugal spinning include simplicity, lower cost and higher production speed.
