Assessing the risk processes and phenomena in terms of protection of soil and water by using the multicriterial analysis
Original language description
The Czech Republic has one of the highest percentage of arable land in Europe. The degradation processes, supported by forcible consolidation of field plots, by drainage of large area of land, by concentration and intensification of agricultural production, resulted in acceleration of problems associated with erosion processes, deterioration in quality of water resources, loss of biodiversity. Due to transport processes in the watersheds increase the accumulation of pollutants in the water, silting of retention area, soil degradation depleted by erosion. Remedy of incurred damages is a prolonged process, in case of loss of soil this is often irreversible process. For objective and effective identification of measures leading to protect the quality of water bodies, to reduce soil erosion and to support stabilization of ecosystems it is necessary to have comprehensive information on the causes of degradation processes, to be able to locate them at any level and prioritize the application of measures. There were determined factors by which any location can be categorized in terms of susceptibility to negative phenomena accompanying their agricultural use. Chosen risk factors are selected so as to be able to interpret clearly the degree of endangering the soil - water system stability in the farmed land. As the essential, and from the viewpoint of the soil and water conservation in the landscape most important, there were processed 9 analytical data layers according to individual risk factors, processed by using GIS tools. These layers mediate (in terms of protection of soil and water in the landscape) spatial information about the potential risk of a given parameter. The procedure is interpreted in the model area Hustopečsko in southern Moravia, one of the most intensively farmed agricultural area in the Czech Republic. To identify the most endangered agricultural plots in the area of interest there is carried out a multi-criteria evaluation of analytical input layers and their subsequent synthesis. The resulting output (specialized map) identifies most endangered areas, i.e. the places where the combination of selected factors is the worst and where the requirement of remedial measures in the country is the highest. The effect of any measures implemented will be higher than in other places as well. Depending on the prevailing risk at the endangered areas such measures are then proposed, that come up to the optimal protection against the influence of the risk process.
