A top-down / bottom-up method for placement of wetlands on tile-drained farmland in Czechia: A conceptual approach.

  • Original language description

Constructed wetlands can serve as an effective measure for enhancement of water residence time and improvement of water quality in tile-drained watersheds. We present a new conceptual approach of a coupled top-down / bottom-up method for catchment prioritization and placement of constructed wetlands on tile-drained farmland. Catchment prioritization (bottom-up) is based on a combined catchment measures need index (CAMNI), which assess at three catchment-size units water quality and quantity vulnerability by drainage runoff. The top-down perspective consists of an analyses of current and historical data on climate, extent and state of land drainage, surface and drainage hydrology, soils, topography, ecology and land ownership. The approach is demonstrated within Zelivka River Basin (1 178 km2), which collects surface water for the largest Czech drinking water reservoir Svihov. FUČÍK P., ZAJÍČEK A., DUFFKOVÁ R., HEJDUK T.
