The geology and geomorphology of floodplains
Original language description
Geologists and geomorphologists have long been interested in the characteristics of floodpalins and have written much about them. Owing to the extensive use of river floodplains for forestry, agriculture and settlements, there is a practical as well as intellectual interest in the mode of formation and stability of floodpalins, and the frequency of flooding of their surfaces. If maximum use is to be made of the broad, level surfaces provided by floodplains, it si important to know the natural conditionscontrolling their development.
