3D Forest is an open-source non-platform-specific software application with an easy-to-use graphical user interface with the compilation of algorithms focused on the forest environment and extraction of tree parameters. The current version v. 0.51 extracts important parameters of forest structure from the terrestrial laser scanning data, such as stem positions (X, Y, Z), tree heights, diameters at breast height (DBH), as well as more advanced parameters such as tree planar projections, stem profiles or detailed crown parameters including convex and concave crown surface and volume as well as volume of above ground biomass and tree stem assortment. Moreover, 3D Forest provides quantitative measures of between-crown interactions and their real arrangement in 3D space. 3D Forest also includes an original algorithm of automatic tree segmentation and crown segmentation.

3D Forest je multiplatformní open source software publikovaný pod licencí GNU GPL zaměřený na zpracování dat pozemního a dronového laserového skenování (Lidar) získaných v lesním prostředí. V současní době software umožňuje uživateli základní zpracování bodových mračen, tj.: manuální editaci, separaci terénu a vegetace, filtrování, stejně tak jako používání pokročilých funkcí pro automatickou segmentaci jednotlivých stromů a získávání pokročilých informací o jednotlivých stromech – průměr kmene, výška, planární projekce, separace koruny stromu, výpočet objemu a povrch koruny stromu, výpočty korunových interakci pro celý porost, výpočet objemu hroubí pro jednotlivé stormy a sortimentaci kmene. Zdrojový kód softwaru v jazyce C++ je volně dostupný na https://github.com/VUKOZ-OEL/3DForest/releases/tag/v051. Verze 0.51 rozšiřuje funkcionalitu softwaru o nástroje zaměřené na klasifikaci terénních tvarů. Jedná se o funkce které umožňují výpočet sklonu, orientace, křivosti, hustoty bodů a vlastností terénu přímo z bodového mračna.
