Methodology for Identification of Ecological Corridors in the Carpathian Countries by Using Large Carnivores as Umbrella Species

  • Original language description

The methodology is the main output of international project DTP263 ConnectGREEN – Restoring and managing ecological corridors in mountains as the green infrastructure in the Danube basin (DTP2-072-2.3), supported by Interreg Danube Programme, co-financed by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The Methodology for identification of ecological corridors in the Carpathian countries using large carnivores as umbrella species (ISBN 978-80-8184-087-6) has been developed in a close cooperation of partners within the framework of the project. It is the first harmonised methodology at the Carpathian ecoregion level, developed to make results comparable among the countries from the region. This methodological foundation is basically designed to support the target groups in maintaining and improving ecological connectivity in the Carpathian ecoregion: i) nature conservation entities and experts who are going to use the Methodology as a guide to identify corridors, and ii) entities and individuals who are going to use the results of the applied Methodology (e.g. the map with the network of ecological corridors for large carnivores in the Carpathians).
