Old cartographic sources for studying designed landscapes

Original language description

Designed landscapes are important part of cultural heritage in many countries. They could be documented by cartographic sources during or after their creation. Cartographic sources range from simple sketches to representative maps and give us important information about the planned a realized features and design. On the other hand, cartographic sources are still sources and they must be read critically. The cartographic sources documented designed landscapes and methods of their study will be presented on several case studies from Bohemia (Czech Republic): Krásný Dvůr, Kačina, Červený Hrádek. In this set of old maps we could present different types of sources and several strategies that led to creation of the cartographic works. All old maps have to be studied critically and information depicted on them interpret carefully. Nevertheless, old maps are very good sources for cartographic analysis and interpretation of the designed landscapes on the actual maps. The process of creation these interpretative maps of the designed landscapes and different features that could be interpreted will be presented as well.
