Fucosyltransferase 1 gene polymorphism in piglets suffering from edema disease
Original language description
The edema disease was detected by gross examination and confirmed by bacteriological isolation of shiga toxigenic E. coli (STEC) in 30 of 67 examined piglets. A total of 31 piglets were detected to be of genotype MM (susceptible to intestinal colonization with F18 fimbriated E. coli). Type Mm (susceptible) was found in 33 piglets. Genotype mm (resistant piglets) was detected in only 3 examined piglets. Edema disease was not detected in piglets resistant to colonization either by bacteriology or post mortem. Among 30 piglets affected by the oedema disease, 11 were of genotype MM and 19 of genotype Mm.
