Mycobacterium a. avium (MAA; serotype 2, genotype IS901+) was cultured from 21 hens. From a total of 330 samples taken from hens MAA was detected in tissues, in swabs of cloacae and in faeces. Mycobacteria of other species were also isolated. In 7 hens,tuberculous (TB) lesions were found mainly in the liver, spleen and intestine. In 7 hens with TB lesions, Ziehl-Nelsen microscopy revealed acid-fast bacteria (AFB) in only 11 of 94 tissues and in 1 of 7 cloacae swabs. MAA was cultured from 59 of 94 tissues, from 1 of 7 cloacae swabs and from 6 of 7 faeces. In 14 infected hens without TB lesions, AFBs were detected in 3 of 194 tissues. MAA was cultured from 52 of 194 tissues, from 3 of 14 cloacae swabs and from 3 of 14 faeces. DNA of 58 MAA isolates from16 infected hens found to be of three IS901 RFLP types AE, AD and E. From a total of 35 examined environmental samples 4 MAA isolates of RFLP types AE and other 19 isolates of conditionally pathogenic mycobacteria were detected.

Czech description

Mycobacterium a. avium (MAA; sérotyp 2, genotyp IS901+) bylo kultivováno z 21 slepic. Z celkem 330 vzorků odebraných od slepic bylo MAA detekováno ve tkáních, ve výtěrech z kloaky a z trusu. Mykobakteria dalších druhů byla rovněž izolována. U 7 slepic byly zjištěny tuberkulózní (TB) změny především na játrech, ve slezině a ve střevech. U 7 slepic s TB změnami odkryla mikroskopie po barvení Ziehl-Nelsenem acidorezistentní bakterie (ARB) pouze v 11 z 94 tkání a v 1 ze 7 výtěrů kloky. MAA byl vykultivovánz 59/94 tkání, 1/7 výtěrů kloaky a ze 6/7 trusů. U 14 infikovaných slepic bez TB změn byly ARB zjištěny ve 3/194 tkání. MAA byl vykultivován z 52/194 tkání, 3/14 výtěrů z kloaky a 3/14 trusů. DNA z 58 MAA izolátů z 16 infikovaných slepic byly 3 různých IS901 RFLP typů AE, AD a E. Z celkem 35 testovaných vzorků vnějšího prostředí byly 4 MAA izoláty RFLP typu AE a 19 dalších izolátů patřilo mezi podmíněně patogenní mykobakterie.
