Mycobacterium avium subsp. avium in domestic pigeons (Columba livia f. domestica) diagnosed by direct conventional multiplex IS901 PCR: a case report
Original language description
This study aimed at rapid detection of the causative agent of avian tuberculosis (Mycobacterium avium subsp. avium) directly in tissues of domestic pigeons using direct conventional multiplex PCR method. Three euthanized pigeons from one flock with longlasting health disorders of many birds were examined. All birds had pathoanatomical lesions suggesting avian tuberculosis. Using above mentioned method M. a. avium was detected in all three pigeons within 24 hours of sample isolation comparing to three weeks using culture method. Direct conventional multiplex PCR is useful tool for rapid detection of M. a. avium in infected tissues of birds.
