Small colony variants of Staphylococcus aureus - review
Original language description
Bacterial variants of Staphylococcus aureus called small colony variants (SCVs) originate by mutations in metabolic genes, resulting in emergence of auxotrophic bacterial subpopulations. Due to colonial appearance of SCVs they could be misidentified in microbiology laboratory. These variants are able to resist to antibiotics and persist viable inside host cells.
