HPMA-RGD Hydrogels Seeded with Mesenchymal Stem Cells Improve Functional Outcome in Chronic Spinal Cord Injury
Original language description
In the paper the authors evaluate implantation of hydrogels based on hydroxypropylmethacrylamide with attached amino acids (HPMA-RGD) seeded with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs; therapy group I) in the therapy of experimental chronic spinal cord injury (SCI) in rats. They compare this therapy with either implantation of HPMA-RGD hydrogels (therapy group II) or SCI only (control group). The results show that implantation of HPMA-RGD hydrogels seeded with MSCs led to improved motor and sensory function of the hindlimbs of the rats and reduced atrophy of the spinal cord after 6 months.
