Development of tibiofemoral angle in Czech children

  • Original language description

This study presents reference data about development of tibiofemoral angle in Czech population, performed in 282 preschool and school boys and girls, aged 4.0?11.9 years. In all probands 20 anthropometric parameters were carried out (body height, weight, sitting height and special parameters). We used new non-invasive anthropometric method of calculation for determination of T-F angle and then the tibiofemoral angle were marked and measured from special photographic documentation. Values of tibiofemoral(T-F) angle and intermalleolar (IM) or intercondylar (IC) distances show us the development of lower extremity axis (at region of knee joints) in frontal plane. The authors found that in boys and girls under 12years of age, the tibiofemoral angle is without any intersexual differences. In Czech group of children the average tibiofemoral angle was 7.01° +/- 2.49° with range (min ?2.12°, max 15.24°). Tibiofemoral angle does not correlate with chronological age. But we found significant co
