Surprisingly favorable outcome in a patient with Goodpasture's disease
Original language description
Goodpasture's disease is a very rare condition characterized by pulmonary hemorrhage, rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis and anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) antibodies. The prognosis is poor without therapy. Current approach consists ofremoval of anti-GBM antibodies and prevention of their further formation by immunosuppressants and plasmapheresis (PP). Hemodialysis or continuous elimination methods are needed in case of renal failure. According to reported data, the outcome of this disease and renal survival is dependent on the initial renal function, early treatment, and number of crescents found on renal biopsy.
