#herniasurgery on the #SoMe platform Twitter: the importance of communication in science
Original language description
In recent years, social media (#SoMe) hasgained an increasingly important place in modern society, including the world we live and work in as surgeons. A number of recent studies have demonstrated that social media engagement is becoming increasingly important for medical professionals. #SoMe is becoming a necessity for organizations and medical journals to stay relevant. The trend in professional #SoMe has changed from "look at me" to "look at that", allowing #SoMe to become a window for the presentation or 'posting' of valuable learning material, in a rapid and focused manner. Twitter allows the user to follow colleagues, key opinion leaders, medical and surgical societies, scientific journals, education channels and medical companies, to name but a few.
